The concept is cool. The premise is dope. The name? I’d rather not talk about it.
GTFO (yeah, I know) is coming to you from the same designer behind the Payday games—you know, the shooters that seemed to have endless amounts of money to put scary clown masks on E3 attendees for the past 40 years. Ulf Andersson launched a new studio called 10 Chambers Collective and managed to get Adam Gascoine involved to write, previously known for his work on The Last of Us and Doom.
Really, the setting seems the most interesting in this four-player co-op first-person shooter. It sounds like these poor souls are actually forced to undertake this dangerous scavenging mission. It feels a bit Alien, a bit Aliens, and then a bit Call of Duty.
But did you see the hologram scanner thing? Or that elevator descent mechanism? It feels like there’s a lot of really cool lore going on here, and I hope that gets a chance to shine. Though the non-fodder enemies do seem slick, too. I guess the big question, though, is whether or not all that chatter is from the characters or the players in an ill-advised emulation of that E3 Wildlands demo.
GTFO is expected to release sometime in 2018, possibly only for PC.
